 Summer Camp

The Nogemag C.A.R.E. project has offered many different programmes since it began operating in the summer of 2002. In partnership with the Elsipogtog Band and Elsipogtog School and in cooperation with Justice Canada, HRDC, Crime Prevention and RBC, Nogemag has created innovative projects to help at-risk youth from the Elsipogtog community.

Nogemag Lodge is designed to build on the strengths of youth of Elsipogtog while at the same time building the capacity of family and community.  Our special focus is youth-at-risk but our camping programme is open to all of the youth in the community.  We also work to develop the leadership skills of the youth who are in university or university bound.  These youth work as youth mentors developing their leadership skills and at the same time serving as role models to the youth-at-risk involved with the Nogemag programme.

In the summer of 2003, responding to the needs of the high-risk youth of the Elsipogtog Community, Nogemag Healing Lodge Farm began operating a SleepAway summer camp for youth ages 8-12.

Young Adults from Elsipogtog undergo leadership training and attend a training programme for camp counsellors in Orangedale, N.S. They then guide the Youth Participants through a fun-filled week of games, crafts, overnight camping trips and cultural activities.

As our campers get older, they too begin leadership training as CIT's with the hope of someday leading camp activities themselves and eventually becoming a Camp Counsellor.
